I understand Cantonese better than I speak it though. If you watch a lot of Cantonese movies or drama series, it will help you immensely. Learning by osmosis, so to speak. Most of the Chinese here in Malaysia can speak several dialects, besides their own. You will get along soon if you kept at what you are doing and don't give up.
